DERBY are looking to sign Chelsea youngster Tariq Uwakwe on loan until the end of the season.
Uwakwe, 20, signed a new three-year deal at Stamford Bridge last summer and is tipped to be another of their academy products to move into first-team contention next season.
Derby are keen on taking the midfielder on for the remainder of the campaign to boost their hopes of gatecrashing the Championship play-off picture.
Despite being 17th in the league, they are only eight points off the top six and the Rams are hopeful of putting together a good run of form in the second half of the season.
Relations between Derby and Chelsea are good since Mason Mount and Fikayo Tomori spent last season on loan at Pride Park under Frank Lampard.
And the Blues would be happy for another of their promising young talents to move to the East Midlands to help their development.
Uwakwe has featured six times in Premier League 2 this season – helping the U-23s to reach the summit of the table.
The England Under-20 youth international also started in the 3-2 win away at Swindon in the EFL Trophy in August.
Uwakwe was chased by West Brom last year, but rejected the Baggies’ proposal after they wanted a loan move with an option to buy.
