LEICESTER — Police are investigating a robbery at Cornerstone Bank on Route 9 during which a masked man made off with an undisclosed amount of cash.
The robbery happened at about 5:45 p.m., according to Police Chief Kenneth Antanavica. The bank is not far from the town’s police station.
The robber was of medium build and clad in a black shirt, cargo pants, a black hat and gloves, the chief said, adding that the man’s face was covered with a black and white bandana with a distinctive pattern on it.
Police canvassed the area and a trained search dog from the Environmental Police tracked to a nearby area where, police said, the man may have gotten into a vehicle. Police also gathered evidence at the bank, Antanavica said.
Police declined to say whether the man passed a note or spoke during the robbery. They also did not say whether they believe he was armed.
Surveillance video is being gathered from the surrounding area and police are asking anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in the area, including a vehicle parked or driving away from the area near the bank, to call the tip line at (508) 892-7010 option #4000.
